Mardi Crawford, a Senior Staff Attorney, has been at the New York State Defenders Association (NYSDA) since 1996. She edits NYSDA'S newsletter, works on its other publications and reports, responds to questions from defense attorneys, and tries to help with whatever needs to be done. Working on public defense standards has been a highlight in her career. As a consultant, she wrote the commentary for NLADA's Performance Guidelines for Criminal Defense Representation (1994). At NYSDA, she staffed other standards projects including the drafting of NYSDA's Standards for Providing Constitutionally and Statutorily Mandated Legal Representation in New York State (2004), and provided support to NYSDA's Client Advisory Board as it drafted its Client-Centered Representation Standards (2005). She, with others at NYSDA, assisted the NYS Indigent Legal Services Office in drafting several of its Standards.
