Detroit Client Advocate
Detroit MI
Asia Johnson is an essayist, poet, and filmmaker from Detroit, Michigan. She exercises her creativity through these mediums giving the audience a raw glimpse into what it's like to be an incarcerated, broken-hearted, lost young woman. Because she wants to blaze a path for young girls and women that leads not to prison but to their full potential, she reaches deep inside and shares her past, but also wishes to inspire by what she has overcome and healed from. Released from prison in 2018 after a nine-year sentence, she is a 2019 Right of Return Fellow and cut50 Dignity Ambassador. Ms. Johnson currently works for The Bail Project as a bail disruptor and is a student at the University of Michigan-Dearborn studying Criminology and Criminal Justice and Film.
