Jessica Newsome is the associate director of social work at Cabrini Green Legal Aid and oversees the interdisciplinary model between attorneys and social workers, including overseeing the collective impact work between CGLA and partner organizations in workforce development. Jessica began her career in 2007 while studying psychology as an undergraduate at Lawrence University and working as a crisis staff member at a domestic violence shelter. Jessica moved to Chicago in 2011, when she started at Jane Addams Resource Corporation (JARC) as an AmeriCorps member, finished her master’s degree in social work at University of Chicago, and volunteered as a doula and in the child welfare system. At JARC, she eventually served as the director of training services in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago. There, she was the project manager and participated in developing curriculum for two-generation approaches within workforce development. Jessica’s experience in multiple sectors of social services brings a holistic lens to her work.
