Lars Brown is the reentry disabilities treatment director for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections (WIDOC). Lars oversees reentry programs, including the Opening Avenues to Reentry Success (OARS) Program. OARS is a joint DOC/Wisconsin Department of Health Services (WIDHS) program that identifies and enrolls inmates with serious mental illness before release from prison. OARS offers participants case management, psychiatric services, housing, and a range of individualized services based on participant needs for up to two years in the community. Lars also manages WIDOC’s Disabled Offender Economic Security (DOES) Project, a contract currently held by Legal Action of Wisconsin. The DOES Project provides civil legal services to mentally ill and disabled individuals prior to release from prison and focuses primarily on public benefits application assistance. Lars also acts as the DOC liaison to the Area Social Security Administration and manages the effort in WIDOC to provide Medicaid application assistance to inmates.
